Singapore in Manila at Boon Tong Kee

boon17
Boon Tong Kee, bringing the best of Singapore to Manila

Singapore is known for their diverse food selections, that has made Singapore a melting pot of great flavors.  People from all walks of life enjoy bits and pieces of Singapore flair, even though I have not been to Singapore (can you believe this? I can't believe it myself), I'm so glad, one restaurant has made it here in the Philippines, and makes me feel a little closer to Singapore with every bite.

Let's take a bite at Boon Tong Kee...

Boon Tong Kee started out just a small store in Singapore's Chinatown in 1979 and has blossomed to 7 branches in Singapore, opened in Indonesia, Thailand and now the Philippines.

We crave for Rodilla's Yema Cake

G4

Yema Cake by Rodillas
from Geicks!

A pleasant surprise arrived at my doorstep.  Packaged in red, tastefully designed with a peek window on what was gonna be one of the most delightful treats I have ever encountered.

G1

A full piece of Yema cake, wow!  Kinda reminds me of my childhood days where I used to dunk in quite a no. of Yema wrapped in celophane that you buy from vendors roving around the metro, well they have gone missing nowaways, but thankfully Geicks is here to satisfy our cravings.

G3

Ooohhh... just look at that!  Overflowing with Yema filling topped with grated cheese.  Just the thought of it makes me drool, now that its in my midst, I'm overly excited on slicing it up and down a big chunk of sponge cake

G2

Alas, heaven in a bite!  This creation was a marvel, if you love sweets then you have to love Rodilla's Yema cake.  Creamy, custard-like taste of the yema smothered and overflowing at the top, is perfect for the sponge cake. This will definitely be a crowd favorite when I serve this at our family get togethers.  I suggest you get one too, and experience the yema goodness of Rodilla's, perfect for everyday occasions.

I inquired their prices as well for your convenience.  They are priced at P299.00 for a half (8" x 6") and P549.00 for a whole (8" x 12").  You can reach them at 0927-6881591.  Or order online via their webiste http://geicks.weebly.com/

A Mystery date with a mystery dish

BEE9

A Mystery Date with
Jollibee's Chicken and Mushroom Pasta

Me and wifey got an invite to partake in a Dine-in-the-dark experience at a chic hotel in Ortigas.  Oh boy was I excited, I remembered a scene from "When in Rome", where they got to dine in such a place, forgive if I remembered wrong.  We were to be introduced to a new and special food delight that we had to inhibit our sense of sight and let our other senses run wild.

Yakitori Kitchen at Forbestown at the Fort

yakitori 24

Yakitori Kitchen at The Fort

Yakitori (焼き鳥), grilled skewered chicken, is basically a Japanese type of skewered chicken. The term Yakitori can also refer to skewered food in general.  For our local version, its the barbecue stands you see from one corner to the other.  Grilling out those adidas, betamax, isaw, and chicken ass to mention a few.

Just a little trivia the average yakitori is made from several bite-sized pieces of chicken meat, or chicken offal, skewered on a bamboo skewer and grilled, usually over charcoal.

yakitori 8yakitori 10

Diners ordering yakitori usually have a choice of having it cooked with salt (shio) or with tare sauce, which is generally made up of mirin, sake, soy sauce and sugar. The sauce is applied to the skewered meat and is grilled until delicately cooked.

Yakitori Kitchen recently opened its doors to the public, catering to locals and foreigners alike, made with only fine and imported ingredients from Japan to give you that authentic Japanese Yakitori feeling.

Yurakuen : Teppanyaki at its finest

Yurakuen 14

Yurakuen : Manila Diamond Hotel's Teppanyaki Gem

Yurakuen 29

In Manila, only quite a few places in the metro serve fresh cooked Teppanyaki treats and the best is found here at Manila Diamond Hotel's Yurakuen.

Teppanyaki (鉄板焼き teppan-yaki) is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food. The word teppanyaki is derived from teppan (鉄板), which means iron plate, and yaki (焼き), which means grilled, broiled or pan-fried. In Japan, teppanyaki refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate, including steak, shrimp, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and monjayaki.

Modern teppanyaki grills are typically propane-heated flat surface grills, and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants.

Yurakuen 27Yurakuen 28

Upon setting foot at Yurakuen, you feel like you have been transported to Tokyo, with all the Japanese designs, architecture and of course servers in full Japanese Kimono costume, seems like we are indeed in for a Japanese treat!

O'pollo Grilled Chicken and Burgers! - A Chicken lover's paradise!

opollo1

O'pollo Grilled Chicken and Burgers (pronounced as Apollo with an "O"), is an all chicken fast-food chain that has recently opened its doors to Filipino consumers.  A completely Australian concept based from the owner with a touch of Pinoy.

I have been passing by E. Rodriguez for quite sometime and noticed a big letter "O" and was curious to find out what have I been missing here?

opollo2

The place was very neat, had high ceilings which gave it a very refreshing feel, lots of tables and chairs to sit on, and very friendly staff, as all fast food chains must have.  So let's cut through the chase and order something.

Feast like a King at King Chef

It was a feast like no other, a feast fit for a king.  On the far reaches of Banawe st. in Quezon City a Chinese restaurant is making waves with the Chinese community.  And this time the rumors are true.  We have been a regular visitor of King Chef Restaurant and every visit was a memorable one, especially this.

We were invited to partake in an Imperial feast, showcasing the best that King Chef has to offer.  Some of the guests who answered some trivia questions were lucky enough to have a taste of "King's style Buddha Jump over the Wall" soup which cost around P9,000 for a table of 12.  And also a group of guests also got the chance to savor genuine "King Chef braised superior sharks fin soup" good for one at P1288.  And guest what we were the lucky ones!!!
Oh.. sharks fin soup, so deliciously good.  Our serving per bowl was so big, I was so full from that alone, mixed with red vinegar, gives out the flavor that I have missed for quite some time, and I must say only from genuine sharks's fin can give that one-of-a-kind taste that the world has gone mad over.

Cold Cuts combination with California Maki, Century egg and seaweeds makes for the tasteful appetizer
