Celebrating life continues during lockdown – this optimistic proposition is what helped this cake business thrive in the tough COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the quarantine, people went on to celebrate special occasions with family, becoming an accidental opportunity for Cardinal Cakes, the offshoot of an events catering company known as Cardinal Cuisine.

"Our business provides catering services for birthdays, weddings, baptisms, and other parties. But with the abrupt ban on mass gatherings, we had to pivot to survive. Truly, necessity is the mother of innovation. We came up with a line of cakes, and marketed them to friends and family via social media," said Eric Bandola, co-owner of Cardinal Cakes.

Prior to ECQ, Cardinal Cuisine made cakes as ordered, and only as part of their catering events. But in the early stage of the lockdown, the big cake companies were closed, creating a void. Cardinal Cuisine was quick to take on this sudden opportunity, quickly mobilizing production and accepting orders for delivery. And that’s when Cardinal Cakes began.

Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) along with all of its food and restaurant brands in the country has begun piloting an interactive mobile ordering system via chatbot, with a seamless payment experience powered by PayMaya.

Customers in select areas can now use their credit, debit, or prepaid cards  as well as their PayMaya e-wallet accounts to pay for their favorite food items and meals via the Facebook Messenger channels of  Jollibee, Burger King, Chowking, Mang Inasal, and Red Ribbon -- which are all currently running on beta version.  This will soon be available in the Facebook messenger of Greenwich as well.

All they need to do is type “#order” and send this to the Facebook chatbot of their favorite JFC restaurant, select the meal they’d like to order, pay by selecting their preferred cashless payment option, and wait for their food to be delivered in their homes.

As an added treat, customers can get up to 100% cashback when they pay using their PayMaya registered mobile number upon ordering via chatbot with a minimum spend of P500.

foodpanda, the on-demand food delivery service, announces grocery and essential items delivery through shops. foodpanda, an on-demand food delivery app in the Philippines, and the City Government of Manila signed  today a partnership Agreement for a project that will provide jobs to the City’s 500 tricycle drivers who were affected by the government’s imposition of the enhanced community quarantine to fight the spread of COVID-19 virus.

foodpanda, Pasig City teams up to give jobs to tricycle drivers

foodpanda, an on-demand food delivery app in the Philippines, expands its pandaTODA project in Pasig City in partnership with the City Government. The tech company initiated pandaTODA to help and support thousands of tricycle drivers and their families in the Metro who lost their means of livelihood during the COVID-19  pandemic. Both parties signed  today the pandaTODA partnership agreement which will provide jobs to at least 500 Pasig City tricycle drivers.

“As we all know, we are in a health crisis right now and a lot of our 'kababayans' are having a really hard time. One of the sectors that are really affected by this crisis is our tricycle drivers. In Pasig we have over 13,000 tricycle drivers. All of them have been hit by this crisis and a lot of them don't know where to get their next meal from. With the help of foodpanda, we will be able to help hundreds of tricycle drivers who have no source of income right now.” said Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
