Hainanese Chicken rice.... now at Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers, the no. 1 roasted chicken chain in the country, brings us Singapore's most loved chicken rice.
Say Hi to Hainanese Chicken Rice.

much to my delight, my favorite roasted chicken of all time now has a worthy opponent, I'm talking about my appetite that is, Kenny Rogers' Hainanese Chicken rice gives us 3 flavorful sauces to dip our freshly steamed chicken.  Surprises come in three as they say, with chili sauce (which for me is kinda like a light Sambal sauce), Ginger sauce and the dark sweet soy sauce. The Sambal sauce has a little spice kicked into it, while the garlic sauce was fresh and healthy, the Hoisin sauce would find their palates amongst children.  Overall, I still loved how the ginger sauce was made, just the ones I used to have when I was in Hong Kong.  Sad to say I have never been to Singapore.... planning on that soon.

Hainanese chicken has been a staple food for Singaporeans all over the world, and has now gained recognition all over the world as one of the most sought after dish in the world.
Served on the platter are 1/4 Hainanese chicken, garlic fried rice, yummy pipinos and chicken broth, which tastes a little more of Tinola, that is to match the taste of Filipinos as interpreted by Kenny Rogers here in the Philippines.  With the price of P185.00, give it a try.
Kenny Rogers' new breed of young and health-conscious Ambassadors
Phil Younghusband of the Philippine Football Team Azkals together with Professional Triathele Mica Tantuico
Philippine athletes support and gives a thumbs up to healthier eating with Kenny Rogers Roasters.  See you at your favorite Kenny Rogers' soon.  Kenny Rogers' Hainanese chicken, a healthier way to eat chicken for a healthier you.

Yakult your way to a healthy you

a featurette by Joanna Lim

It was one Saturday morning, Sophie, a blogger friend invited my husband Abet to join them for a tour at the Yakult facility in Laguna.  Since hubby could not attend, I was given my first ever assignment to do a feature for The Food Alphabet.  What a challenge for me... even though I do know that my blogger friends will guide me through the day, so here we go.

Armed with a point and shoot camera, we were met by Sophie's sister at Shangri-La mall en route to the Yakult factory in Laguna.  Never in my life would I imagine myself being there so after a short ride, we finally arrived and we were toured within the facility.  It was quite a discovery how Yakult, a small bottle of cultured milk can bring about so many benefits to kids and adults alike.
  • It has live Lactobacilillus Casei Shirota Strain
  • Gives you a healthy digestive system
  • Retains and promote intestinal health
  • Protects against infections
  • Improves the general immunity of the body
We toured through the conveyer facilities where thousands and thousands of Yakult are being sorted and packed before getting delivered to you favorite supermarkets, sari-sari stores and who can forget your friendly neighborhood Yakult trolley ladies - the Yakult lady system which has been around for the longest time.
Look at all those Yakult bottles coming out of the production line...
if Abet is to see this what a joy indeed for him, he loves his Yakult!
This is where they packed it into 5 pieces, the finish
product is what you see in your supermarket shelves.
Yakult which was invented in Japan, also developed many types of healthy drinks as well such as milk drinks, probiotic drinks, yogurts and beauty cleansing healthy products through the years specially catering to the Japanese market.

A survey in Japan revealed that more than 98% of its consumers associate Yakult's container form to the brand, the form of the container has not changed since 1968.  The Yakult products sold overseas also carry the same shape and has been registered as three dimensional trademark in Japan as well as United States, Europe and recently, the Philippines.

Yakult is also proven to prevent Infantile acute diarrhea, due to its key ingredient, Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota.  Yakult embraces Dr. Minoru Shirota's advocacy of "preventive medicine" and a "healthy intestinal track leads to a long life."

Me, and the girls Nikki, Rowena and Sophie
loving the Lactobacilli Shirota strain mascot...
It was so much fun and indeed a world of wonder to be able to visit Yakult Philippines.  Thank you for inviting us over.  A trivia for you, do you know that Yakult Philippines produces 1,600,000 bottles of Yakult a day, and soon more as indeed healthy conscious people are drinking Yakult more.

As I end my day of visit at Yakult Philippines, I can't help thinking how Abet would have loved to come here, and his question as always is can I get a bigger bottle of Yakult?  Yakult is always on the top of our grocery list and that will never change for all time.

Me, enjoying my Yakult

Live healthy, drink Yakult everyday and as the tagline goes "OK ka ba tiyan?"

Just in time for the hot summer season and Lenten season,  Figaro gives us more reason to spend an afternoon of relaxation while savouring their delicious lenten offerings and hot summer treats.

Get Light for Life with Figaro's Kani Sandwich and Chili Sardine Angel Hair Pasta

The Philippines being a Catholic nation observes Lent quite religiously from no meat Fridays to fasting,  But quite a few establishments offer choices of food that will fill you and keep you satisfied without the guilt.

Figaro Coffee Company's Kani Sandwich (P179), crabstick filling garnished with lettuce and tomato in potato bread, served with side salad, the crunchy lettuce and fresh ripe tomatoes compliments the tasty crabsticks filling perfect with light mayo dressing. Perfect with coffee or your favorite flavor of Figaro Frost.

The Kani Sandwich was easy on the mouth, the mayo filled Kani sandwich tasted not too sweet which was just perfect for me, biting into fresh slices of tomatoes and crunchy lettuce, I felt so revitalized, knowing I get only the freshest of ingredients in my sandwich. Kani Sandwich is not just made for the Lenten Season because you crave for Crabs (Kani) all year round. Figaro just made it easy on your diet with their Kani Sandwich, truly filling without the guilt.

Chili Sardine Angel Hair Pasta (P180), is Spanish sardines sauteed in garlic, olive oil, dried chili flakes, onions and black olives tossed in angel hair pasta. Garnished with finely-chopped parsely and parmesan cheese, the love for spanish sardines with garlic, olive oil, onions, dried chili flakes and black olives complete the angel hair pasta experience.

The saltiness of the fish melts with the sour and salty taste of the black olives exploding in flavors of the spices, onions, garlic and chili flakes. This pasta meal is quite heavy in the sense you get full quite easily, the flavors collide and you can savor all the sweetness, a tad of saltiness and a pinch of spiciness.  You'd be happy you ordered this.

Light yet filling snacks of Kani Sandwich and Chili Sardine Angel Hair Pasta at Figaro may just be the Life you need to make your day right this Lent!
Summer is here and you can feel the heat!  A refreshing drink is what you’ve always wanted on a hot summer day waiting for a ride or beach-combing at your favorite destination. Figaro brings you Summer Frosts with new flavors, Tropical Sorbet and Berried Watermelon! Sip and enjoy the sweet and sunny goodness of this season's most refreshing drinks for only P125!

Tropical Sorbet is a refreshing summer drink that bursts with sweetened passion fruit and a splash of peach flavors combined. Figaro’s Tropical Sorbet allows you to savor the sweetness and the full rich flavors of peach and passion fruit without having to worry about those seeds.  Deliciously refreshing and nourishing.

Flavored by Monin, the world's most famous manufacturer of flavored syrups gives our Summer Frosts that rich flavor enough to melt anyone's heart.

Berried Watermelon is a summer slush drink played with red berries and punch of watermelon flavors. Watermelon is the favorite summer fruit this season. It actually does not just rehydrate with its special cooling effect, it is also fat-free and helps in energy production – just enough to make you sweep the whole shoreline and enjoy frolicking in the sun this season. This drink is perfect when all the sweetness in the watermelon you've been craving needs a summer kick. King One Rotary Hotpot - Shabu-Shabu the right way

The Club only recognizes and recommends one great eat-all-you-can Shabu-shabu place.  No other than King One Rotary Hot Pot.

This is one food joint we always give priority to, not just because of great food, but great people as well.  Fresh and as always "delicious".

First thing you will notice, and I would say this is the only shabu-shabu eat-all-you-can place where you will find this, is the rotary belt where all the freshest meats and finest eats are displayed for your taking.

The rotary belt extends around 40 - 50 feet long, just imagine how many fresh produce is being flashed upon your midst.

Let me showcase some of them for you.
Freshly sliced beef

Sliced fat beef
Fresh and big shrimps!!
perfectly sliced Lamb meat
Pork Siomai
Sliced Chicken
There are more than 90++ dishes to choose from, put them together in your choice of soup, either clear broth soup, satay soup, the curry soup, well in our case it was the combination soup, split in the middle, as we have brought along some nieces of ours who, for now does not eat spicy foods that satay soup has to offer.  Not that their satay soup is spicy, well the kids just haven't got the hang of it... but surely one day they will.
Let it cook to a boil then you're done!  Eating time!!
My favorites cooked in satay soup, squid balls, shrimp wantons, fish balls and lobster balls!!
But of course, great food must be paired with a great dipping sauce.  That is how shabu-shabu is appreciated.  So to mix your sauce right, get some garlic, leeks, some chili, the delicious satay sauce and finally King One's special shabu-shabu sauce.  I'm salivating as I'm making this post.  Mmmmm.

What is nice about this place is that they not only serve shabu-shabu, but also they serve some delicious ala carte foods as well, as far as I can remember they don't serve ala carte dishes on a separate menu.

They are more of an add-on to the shabu-shabu promos, so here is how it goes, dine in with 3 of you at least for the shabu-shabu eat-all-you-can, you get to pick 2 dishes from their list, which on our case includes the salt and pepper spare ribs, fried rice and spicy squid, they change this line-up once in a while to have variety.  The more of you that dines, the more dishes you get. Another plus factor is their drink-all-you-can, may it be iced tea or soft drinks for a price of P65, if I'm not mistaken, or try out their other blended fruit shakes.

Eat-all-you-can price for lunch is P479, and for dinner P529.

By the way, if you spot these happy faces, do say Hi to them!
