Ever wondered where in Manila can you find the best steaks in town? Well, maybe 5 - 10 years ago I'd give you a answer like well... there's one that's good at... but we have had better, why so because these places, as good as the food that they serve do come out sometimes as inconsistent and sad to say now of a dying breed, but finally someone has up the ante and so glad that Manila can now finally get to enjoy some awesome steak.. in the name of Wolfgang's Steakhouse!
Showcasing an impressive set-up for a great dining experience, Wolfgang's Steakhouse promises to give you that ultimate experience in dining with no compromises. Rated as of the best steakhouses in New York, spanning nine branches in the USA, one in Seoul, and now Wolfgang's has finally laid their foundation in the busiest culinary scene in the world, the Philippines.
The steakhouse is named after Wolfgang Zwiener, who opened his eponymous restaurant, after having worked at the legendary Peter Luger's steakhouse in NYC for more than 40 years. It was there where he gained extensive experience in the dry aging process of USDA Prime quality beef as well as the steak high temperature broiling preparation process - which in turn evolved into Wolfgang's philosophy for excellence.
But before any steak is to be served, you must have a good bottle of wine to pair it with, luckily Wolfgang's have their own diverse wine selection of over 1,200 fine wines from all over the world, that would make any wine enthusiast drool, from merlot to cabernet sauvignon, from the classics to the rarest, you'd find them all here at Wolfgang's Steakhouse highly acclaimed and award winning wine cellar.
Here are but 2 of their most prized wines in Petrus Pomerol or Screaming Eagle each fetching a hefty price tag of more that P100,000, I'd be happy to be able to have a glass of this. So which one are we having?
So we start our evening with a few cocktails... somewhat saying "The Calm, before the storm", where we're ecstatic in anticipating a voluptuous dinner feast in the next few minutes and I know for sure, it will be one heck of food fare.
As we were preparing our taste buds for an experience unparalleled in every way you can imagine, we were invited to check out well, their stock pile of USDA dry aged beef. Wolfgang's steakhouse offers strictly USDA Prime beef which is dry aged in ins own propriety designed aging room under a controlled temperature and humidity environment for an average of 28 days. So what is dry aging you ask? Dry aging is a process of which enhances tenderness and flavor in beef, during which the beef's natural enzymes break down the connective tissue in the muscle which leads to a more tender beef.
Am I being too technical? In short, dry aging makes your USDA Beef experience just perfect, perfect steaks everytime, everyday.
Just look at their stockpile of USDA prime beef, dry aged in their special room, we can call this the million peso room as these indeed surpasses millions in value.
Now Dry Aged beef doesn't cook itself right, you have to have to right people and skills to make you that unbelievable steak, so kudos to these busy chefs who make dining at Wolfgang's Steakhouse a must for everyone in the metro... now onto our dinner....
Our appetizer, dry aged beef salpicao, no words can seem to describe how good this tastes, I can only relive that moment in my thoughts and salivate at every bite that I took. It is juicy, plump, tender and just seemingly the best beef salpicao I have ever had in my life, but sad to say this has not made it up to the current menu yet, but soon! Now I am feeling more and more lucky that we had first dibs on this at Wolfgang's Steakhouse.
We're having mushroom soup! Flavorful, rich and tastefully done, sprinkle in some black pepper and get the taste of freshly made mushroom soup, with all the right spices. A great way to tickle your tummies before the main course.
Dig into their Mixed Greens Salad, a refreshing balance of fruits and vegetables to complement your meal
Next up their Tuna Tartar, yellow fin tuna diced with cucumber avocado salad served with lime ginger vinaigrette and crostini on the side
Then we're off to the main course, the Mahi - Mahi, is fresh then char-grilled to perfection, seasoned with crushed avocado mix with veggies and spices on the side.
And here we are with Wolfgang's Steakhouse Prime Rib with Au Jus and Horseraddish, our main course for the night. Satisfying is an understatement of how good this Prime Rib was, crisp and burnt on the skin, soft, succulent and juicy on the inside, just the perfect steak I had in mind.
Pair it with their very own old fashion sauce, to bring out that best flavor in every bite.
Get to enjoy their other menu items, such as veal, lamb, king salmon, sushi grade tuna, lobsters and more.
After that fantastic piece of fine meat! Now let's have dessert, New York Style Cheesecakes, Chocolate Mousse, Tiramisu, Fruit Platter all in one giant platter, love it or hate it, but you just have to have a piece of the action. Their New York style Cheesecakes are to die for, have a bite no two would be better.
